Router

  • Router is a device containing software that help in determining the best path out of the available paths, for a particular transmission.
  • Every device on the Internet needs a unique IP address. Your ISP provides you with one, allowing one device to access the Internet.
  • A router will access the Internet through that IP address, then provide local IP addresses.
  • This allows you to access the Internet from multiple computers through one connection.

    Types of Routers

    • These are the types of routers discussed in below.
    Broadband Router
    • Broadband routers can do different types of things. Broadband routers can be used to connect computers or to connect to the Internet.
    • If you connect to the internet through phone and using Voice over IP technology (VOIP) then you need broadband router.
      Core Router
      • A core router is a router in a computer network that routes data with in a network, but not between networks.
        Edge Router
        • This type of router are placed at the edge of the ISP network, the are normally configured to external protocol like BGP (Border gateway protocol) to another BGP of other ISP or large organisation.
          Virtual Router
          • A virtual router is a backup router used in a VRRP setup.

            Advantages

          • Router route the data in an organized way. Router generate a reliable connection between hosts.
          • Router is used for alternatively incase the main is fail to transfer data.
